My family and I are extremely blessed. We have shelter, warmth, medicines, food, water, family and so, so much more. We wanted to share what we have with other people in the world that aren't as fortunate as we are. We decided as a family that we should start sponsoring a child. My family and I have been sponsoring a young girl named Elias Ivvona Shamlesile since November of 2011. She lives in Tanzania, Africa and she is born on April 4, 2000. We got started with a group called World Vision. Last year (2014) my sister, Hannah, decided she would sponsor another child. Hannah is now sponsoring Hiwot Chereu all on her own as well as continuing to help Elias Ivvona. Hannah has decided to sponsor her child through a different organization called Compassion.
Now that you know what my family and I are doing, I'm going to tell you what my mission is. Even though I am sponsoring a child, I want to do more than that. I want to give to more than just one child; I want to give to a whole town. What I am doing is raising money for Tanzania through World Vision by doing a bake sale. World Vision is a Christian based organization, and, like other humanitarian organizations, provides for the medical, nutritional and educational needs of impoverished people around the world. All the money we earn will be funneled to Tanzania, so that others in Elias Ivvona's community can benefit as she has from financial support. Now a lot of people like doing bake sales and selling the same old stuff: brownies, chocolate chip cookies and cupcakes. Those treats aren't bad, but you can buy them just about anywhere, so what I am planning is to get delicious, unique baked goods from my Aunt Anna's bakery. My Aunt Anna makes the best baked goods ever!!! She makes the best food, too. Everything she makes is from scratch--even the breads! Treats like my Aunt Anna's Grandma Evelyn's Apple Walnut Cake, amazing macaroons (which are gluten free, by the way), an assortment of unique bread puddings, oversized cookies and, of course, her famous scratch-baked breads. Just like me, she believes in helping others and supporting organizations like World Vision that are working to help find solutions to poverty and injustice. As a result of my mission, people in Tanzania will be better, and I'm hoping Aunt Anna's bakery (The Mothership Bakery) will flourish as new people discover her delicious treats as well! My mission is two-fold--these tantalizing treats will treat your taste buds as you treat the people of Tanzania--It's a mission that brings twice the blessing.
